HOMEWORK: Due: 30/10/18
Why is the idea of edges important in photography?.
1)Using edges can be important to view something from a different angle.
2)You can also use edges to look at a high angle and also a low angle.
3)Edges are quite simple but effective because you cant always see what the object is so the idea of edges is very clear.
4)Edges can be used to make the centre stand out.

ASSESSMENT
I chose these photos because they are very colourful and are very creative. The brick wall is very basic but natural.
The two framed photo is very unique. It shows 2 photos at the same time. The picture of the house is very bright and is the main focus. The photo in the top right hand corner is like a cliffhanger. The two framed photo on the left corner looks very calming, it looks like water pouring from a cup.

PHOTOGRAM.
Todays lesson we made a edges photogram.
The first step was to pick 1 object and place expose them under the light for 2 seconds, then to soak into the first chemical for 1 minute 30 seconds then into the 2nd chemical which was for 45 seconds and then 3rd chemical from 1-5 minutes and finally to place into water and hang it to dry. In the end it would look full exposed and clear of what object were in the photo.

Edges around the classroom.
The rule of thirds
In todays lesson we used the rule of thirds. The basic principle behind the rule of thirds is to imagine breaking an image down into thirds (both horizontally and vertically) so that you have nine parts.
my favourite image
This is my favourite image because
This is my favourite image because
- I like the way it is formed
- I liked the way that someone had left the draws open and not noticed the pattern.
- the photograph is well spaced an people would probably just walk past it or push them in.
- A Photograph like this should be shared more and help people see something like this.
Ellsworth Kelley.
Ellsworth Kelly (May 31, 1923 – December 27, 2015) was an American painter, sculptor, and printmaker associated with hard-edge painting, colour field painting and minimalism. While in Paris, Kelly had continued to paint the figure but by May 1949, he made his first abstract paintings. Observing how light dispersed on the surface of water, he painted Seine (1950), made of black and white rectangles arranged by chance.

The task was to take 10 photos inspired by my favourite photo from the rule of thirds.
These photos go really well as a triptych because they are all grey and they are the main focus of the image. The light on them makes them look bright and noticeable.

Homework
The way I would sequence my photos is by colour (brightest to darkest) or by how close the picture is to the lense. I would use dyptichs because they look better and are easier to combine.
Sequence Of Edges.
My sequence would go like this because the colours get darker and they zoom out as you go along.
Edges photo analysis.
In Robert Franks photo you can see the words 'sick of goodbyes'. You can also see his arm holding a small voodoo doll which could suggest that he wants to control his friends/family to stay with him because he doesn't like saying goodbyes. The dolls legs are kinda blurred which could show that he is shaking the dolls. This photograph is portrait and the genre is like a horror/tradegy. Something that is unusual is the doll, there isn't many paintings with dolls/voodoo dolls in them. Another thing is the small 'door' at the bottom of the painting.
In lorenzos photo you can see flowers and coconuts. This photo is colourful compared to franks . This photograph is also a portrait and a still life. Something unusual about this photo is the way the objects are positioned/presented, objects are usually placed in a specific order, e.g.;height order, bright to dark , etc.
The main similarities are they are both photos, they both use shapes and they both have meanings behind them. For example, Roberts has an meaning of upset, depressed, whereas Lorenzos shows happiness and optimism. Space is presented more in Lorenz's photo because he has placed the main objects in the centre. There are many differences between the two photos. For example; colour, emotional, and one uses words and the other uses objects an colour. The main part of each photograph that strikes me is the most is the objects used.
In these photos I can see ; corner edges, curved edges, straight edges. The relationships between the photos and edges is that with the edges the photo stands out more. In Lorenz's photo the edges don't really help the picture .If I could talk to the artist of each photo I would ask :
1)What made you feel like this?
2)How did you find the idea of using these objects?
3)How long did it take you to arrange these objects?

Independent project.
Todays task was to take photos that would help with our independent project. We had half an hour to do this.
I took some photos of edges that were blue to keep it on one focus.

Independent project.
This term we have been working on a independent project. My project was based on blue/green edges.
I am pleased with the out come of these photos. Something that went well was the colours are balanced well, another thing that went well is they are all different and have different shades of green/blue. Something that would make it better if certain places were highlighted an stood out from everything else. These photos link back to edges because they are different angles and all have different edges in them.
Cover work
1)How would you describe this photograph to a person who could not see it?
The photograph is dark but in the centre its really light. There are 2 shadows in the middle ground.
2)How is space represented in this photograph (foreground, middle ground, background?)
In the foreground, space is not presented well because it is dark. In the middle ground space is represented better because there are posters.
3)What is in or out of focus? How has the subject been framed/cropped?
The middle ground is in focus but the fore ground and background are out of focus.
4)Which part of the photographs strikes you as most interesting - capitative, surprising, puzzling, mysterious? why?
The posters on the wall are most interesting. One thing that is puzzling is that there is lots of light on the back wall but none on the ground or the ceiling.
